
From July 4-12, 2000, CARE's staff writer posted daily journal entries detailing the Youth Corps' journey through Peru. Follow along as the group visits some of the ruins of the Inca Empire and works alongside Peruvians with self-help projects. An itinerary of the Youth Corps' trip is listed below:
Day 1-Day 4 (July 4-7): Visit CARE projects in Cajamarca, Peru. Here, the Youth Corps will help Peruvians with water and sanitation and health projects.
Day 5 (July 8): Meet local youth groups on "Sports and Social Day."
Day 6 (July 9): Discover the legacy of the Incas. Visit "El Cuarto del Rescate," the ransom chamber where the last Inca king was imprisoned by the Spanish. Other highlights include visits to Cerro Santa Apolonia and Cajamarca's natural hot springs.
Day 7 (July 10): Depart Cajamarca, travel to Lima.
Day 8 (July 11): Visit micro-credit programs and discover how Peruvian women are becoming financially independent.
Day 9 (July 12): Meet local high school students in Lima.
