Care & Peru

In 1970, a major earthquake shook Peru. Approximately 67,000 people died and more than 600,000 were left homeless after this catastrophe. At the request of the Peruvian government, CARE began working in Peru to aid earthquake victims. Today, CARE helps implement development projects throughout the country. Examples of projects include:
  • providing clean water and improving sanitation;
  • helping women get credit and training to start or expand small businesses;
  • improving the health and nutrition of rural children; and
  • increasing food security among farm families.

CARE projects in Peru are helping more than 1 million of the country's poorest people in their fight to overcome poverty.
