Children gathered around the office to say goodbye before we departed for Kathmandu.

The airport waiting room as we prepared to leave Kolti was crowded with children playing and piles of luggage. When a siren went off, we were hustled through the departure door down the stairs and stood on the airstrip watching for the plane to turn the corner around the mountain. We wished the Bajura staff good-bye, snapped photos, and thanked them for an extraordinary trip. As soon as we had fastened our seat belts, we were taxiing down the short runway. The take-off was so fast that we barely had a chance to look back at the crowd below. We made a 180-degree turn to the right into the deep valley between the mountains and headed south for Nepalgunj.

After a few hours of waiting in the steamy Nepalgunj airport we boarded our Buddha Air flight back to Kathmandu. Again we arrived in the evening. A CARE driver met us and took us to our hotel.
