Project Information

Project Name:Darfur Emergency Response
Project Description:
A complex emergency is ongoing in the western part of Sudan. During the past six months, an armed conflict between the Government of the Sudan, and various armed groups, has worsened, leaving an estimated 3,000 dead, more than 600,000 internally displaced, and close to 100,000 refugees in neighboring Chad. The local population, caught in the middle, has suffered the most. CARE Sudan will support two of the Sudan Advocacy Coalition partners (Save the Children Uk and Oxfam GB) in providing emergency relief to 40,000 war - displaced persons. The project will do so by:

improving the health status of displaced and the sanitary condition of displaced settlements through the provision of conveniently accessible potable drinking water and hygiene and sanitation education to 33,000 IDPs in Korma IDP camps in North Darfur State.

distributing cooking utensils and blankets to 7,200 displaced (1,200 IDP families) in Kebakabia camps in North Darfur State.

conducting emergency rapid assessment surveys in affected areas, and strengthen the capacity of state government and local NGOs in emergency preparedness and response.
