The overall objective of the project is to improve the health and livelihood security of at least 110,000 drought-affected people in Gubeish Province of West Kordofan State. This objective can be achieved through increased access to potable water, improved community management of water resources, practice of personal hygiene and by bringing awareness among the masses.A total of ten water yards need to be upgraded in the rural councils of Gubeish and El-Odaya. Community-based structures to manage the water yards need to be established, and its members, elected by the villagers themselves, need to be supported in acquiring adequate technical and managerial skills required to handle the job. An Official agreement, signed between the villages through their respective Village Committees and State Authorities, clearly defines the management and financial responsibilities of both parties. This agreement will help to ensure the continuation of community involvement after the end of the project.
