Project Information

Project Name:My Watershed
Project Description:
The goal of the My Watershed Project (Integrated Water Resource Management) is that poor rural communities in El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua reduce their vulnerability to water-related shocks and improve their quality of life.
It has four main objectives. Objective 1) The coping abilities of vulnerable rural communities to resist water-related shocks are improved; including that community-based risk management has reduced the impact of global climate change and natural disaster in degraded watersheds. An intermediate result is to have mitigated conflict over scarce water resources; and that community capacities to organize, influence and manage watersheds and water systems have improved.
Objective 2) Vulnerable rural communities and key stakeholders improve the quantity, quality, continuity and reliability of water for domestic and productive purposes through Integrated Watershed Management. An intermediate result will be that coverage of basic water and sanitation systems is increased in project watersheds; quantity of water for productive uses is increased in project watersheds; and communities’ abilities to manage, conserve and rehabilitate natural resources in watersheds is improved.
Objective 3) Water policy, financing and governance benefit vulnerable rural communities that includes improved legal and policy frameworks support to integrated watershed management and equitable distribution of water resources; creative financing strategies multiply the scope and scale of HGBF-funded water programs; institutional capacities for influencing water practices and policy are bolstered.
